I bought a road-racing bicycle. It's a bit gay, but you can get around town fast, if you live in the city. 15 min to downtown, and don't have to search for hours for parking.
Kerrisdale (the 'burb where I live) is so full of old people that for the most part, I'm passing 'em on my bike anyways.
Saving gas on the highway -> drive at the speed limit. Your efficiency drops considerably even if you're only going 10 km/h over. Also, make sure your tire pressure is correct. Soft tires = rolling resistance.
