This is simply to try and help with engine ID
Firstly, there are 2 types of KLZE engines, mx6 style and the Millenia type.
The millenia type is fitted with a curved IM and loaded with KL01 cams. These are favoured for transplant into the mx3 as they negate fitment issues on some versions.

Below is The standard ZE fitted to the Japanese spec mx6:
To identify, there are 3 things you are interested in. Firstly the manifold. It should be identified like this:
The left pic is your standard KLZE Jspec IM
The second from left is the KLZE Millenia IM, both of these engines offer approx 200 ponies
The second from right pic is a KLDE IM, fitted to most EURO/US cars.
And the furthest right is a KF IM from a Jspec 2.0. You can see it has thinner branches and a differing neck.
Your second port of call is the engine stamp. Its located on the rear of the block like this:
And should look similar to this:
If 2.5 it will be marked (KL)
If 2.0 it will be marked (KF)
If 1.8 it will be marked (K8)
We cant all just pull the block to be sure, so another way to check would be to check the head stamp on the rear of the front bank. This is also the best way to determine between DE and ZE engines.
They are located in between the IM branches and the front bank as shown here:
And the stamp should look like this:
KLZE will be marked (KL31 or KL36)
KLDE will be marked (KL03)
The next step if your still not sure would be to inspect your cams. Dont do this if your unsure about what to do, i wont explain as i will suggest you research more to gain experience first.
Inside the cover, the cam should have a stamp that looks similar to this:
KLZE (kl31 or kl36)
KLDE (kl01)
If for any reason your block does not have markings like those shown in the pics, its likely you are not running a ZE or you are possibly running a hybrid (differing parts of different engines).
