Not much of one, really; just swap the engine harness which pops through the firewall, and plugs into the ECU. It also has a few plugs by the dash to supply signals (and the OBD-II diagnostics connector) to some of the interior stuff like gauge cluster, etc.
The only PITA part would be removing the two nuts on the firewall that hold the harness in place IF the engine is still installed; I did it with the engine out, so no biggie.
We'll see if she runs next week, I'm still waiting on alot of parts to come in (brake rotors and pads, intake elbow, some other things), and just got my exhaust rewelded to handle the SS headers. I'm also still in the process of replacing control arms, swaybar hardware, SS brake lines, not to mention finishing up the ZE swap.
As a last note, you do NOT need MS to run your goddamn engine! What a friggin' joke, everyone that has one seemingly needs to justify their purchase by pushing it on everyone else. The stock ECU (even a '97) will run it just fine, you will lose a little bit of power because VRIS will be off, and your CEL will be on unless you install the EGR valve. But, it will work, and reliably so.
The OBD-I swap and an EPROM will allow you to get rid of both the CEL from EGR and correct the VRIS, without the expense and constant "tuning" of MS. I have nothing against MS, but let's be honest folks, it's not for everybody! Most people want to put their car together and drive it, not tweak it constantly.
