I can do CNC, but that doesn't mean I "am a CNCer".
IIRC Sick has talked about a shop that does balancing before. Maybe he could chime in with any info he has...

The act of lathing the aluminum balances it. BUT if you go and bore holes in it to lighten it, THEN you have to rebalance it, which I guess you cant do on a lathe. I really need to do some more research on this... I will call some places.

That's the gist of it. Even if you lathe it, parts of the metal "could" be more dense than the other parts, which could make it unbalanced.
