oh yes it can! the reason fast becomes important are those extra features, and performing calculations to extra precision. the ms2e code can do calcs to a very high level of precision, better than a lot of the brand name ecus can.

the devs do say that its fine in terms of speed, but they do have to optimise the code to work ok at high rpm each time they mess with it. if it was faster again, that dev effort could go into feature development. they are at the edge of the amount of space available though, there isnt much more room for code to fit on the die. and thats using the bit of the die that motorola dont specify is usable ;-) (the manufacturers make em all at 128k and just stamp and sell them differently)
