We've always been impressed with the mx-6's but have never thought about them as an autocross car. I understand they would compete in g-stock, or STS in scca regulated races and performance upgrades seem pretty affordable (ala ebay). What are your thoughts on this? We are looking at a '93 MX-6 with 150K miles for $1,800. Its a manual transmission, I believe the "LS" model, and has the 24 valve, DOHC. Any advice would be very appreciated!
the car used to be a serious player in SCCA Solo2 racing back when they were still being produced. i know a couple of people on this board who used to race one in the utah region [ironically they both raced the same car, as two different owners, one as g-stock and the other as sts].

i would recommend running the car stock, just to get a feel for it, then doing some research here for the different types of modifications available for the car. there are still some mods that are not allowed for STS. bigger brakes will immediately put you in SM [street mod], but coilovers are now allowed. you can use camber plates, strut tower bars, cross-drilled/slotted brake rotors, rear sway bar, lowering springs, adjustable struts and some other mods that i'm forgetting.

the complete list of class rules and regulations can be found at the SCCA website: SCCA Sports Car Club of America.
