I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before... TYRES!
by far the best, cheapest, easiest way to improve performance.
If STS (thats the stock class right?) allows semi slicks, go find a place that sells used semi slicks and go for it. Get an extra set of rims to put them on, lighter the better, but light weight = more money, so whatever your budget allows.
If it doesnt allow semis, a good set of street tyres will still make a large difference.
