'88 626 5-Door turbo 5spd

SOLD

The car runs, drives and is in good shape overall, but needs some work. 626 Vin#: JM1GD2444J1578285, 169,673 miles. Included in the sale is a '92 mx6 gt parts car with a good tranny and entire power steering assembly (the need for it is described below). MX6 Vin#: 1YZGD31D5N5193711, 264,710 miles. Both are located in Boxborough, MA 01719.

For rust: The passenger side rocker panel, the hood, moon roof, driver's side rear fender well (inside corner vertically and horizontally behind mud flap), and the two inner corners of the rear passenger foot wells are the worst. The rest is just surface rust on some of the under body here and there. All four doors and sills are in great shape with no rust.

For mechanical: The transmission goes into all gears easily, but pops out of 5th under slight load. Shift fork was replaced as well as the entire shift linkage but it only helped slightly. The shifter has a lot of slop at all times, and upon exiting a highway the tranny got stuck out of gear briefly (only happened once), therefore I'm thinking it's the shift gate. The parts car tranny worked perfectly when it was driven into it's current parking spot.

The steering rack, pump and one line need to be replaced because the previous owner ran the line dry for a while and it got progressively worse during my ownership. All components needed worked perfectly in the parts car.

The reason it was parked and taken off the road in september is because of the clutch line. There's air getting into it near the master cylinder side and won't stay bled. I can drive 40 miles or so before the clutch disengages near the floor. The slave cylinder is dry, and the master cylinder is a year old from autozone. I have new seals for the master cylinder, as well as the original master cylinder which probably wasn't bad when I replaced it.

The #4 cylinder fuel injector seal is bad, found when I pressurized the intake system. Included is a full set of seals for all 4 injectors.

Other mechanical: Various other small problems such as the front passenger exterior door handle is broken, has the common hi beam problem where it turns on by itself when lights are on, sometimes the starter gear won't engage and it just clicks instead (presumably the solenoid is sticky), the rear windshield washer never worked (have another pump for it), probably some more small problems I'm forgetting.

I have a box of spare parts that I've accumulated over time including intercooler hoses, heat shields, sensors, etc. And of course, the parts car with most of the interchangeable mechanical components still there.

All A/C components in the engine bay were removed. The cruise control is gone in the pics, but will bolt right back in (removed to get to PS lines and left out because 5th gear is gone anyways... worked fine when removed).

The 626 has a zombie chip installed (stock chip included) as well as bleeder manual boost controller set to peak at 15psi. It has a K&N drop in filter, probe 18mm rear sway bar, poly bushings and end links front and rear, and an mx6 rear strut tower bar. During my brief test drive last week the car still ran strong.

Reason for selling: I'm going to be graduating college in a couple months and want to pick up a newer car for work. My parents are also sick of having my 3 cars in their yard, especially the parts car.
