My girlfriend's '92 is almost completely stock, with just a cone filter, stock replacement clutch, and a shaved stock flywheel (12 lbs now instead of almost 20! ), and the Tsudo catback exhaust off ebay. She's usually last as far as times of the day go, but she has fun, and she gets better every time, and that's what counts

As far as the alignment, I do not drive the miata daily, only to and from events and special occassions. Last year I put less than 1,000 miles on it, so I don't mind an "aggressive" alignment, plus my husband is really swift with tires and I have no problem rotating them myself.
Good for your gf that she still goes out there even though she comes in last. Last season I finished 2nd in the Ladies Division (out of about 7 regular lady members), and finished 1st in my class (out of 3 regular drivers). This upcoming season will be my 3rd year. I think part of it, atleast for women, is that alot of ladies tend to be afraid of what a car is capable and not willing to test the limits of a car for fear of "hurting" the car or finding themselves in a position they cannot control or get themselves out of. I've had my car since I was 16 and it has not done anything that I haven't already experienced, and I always feel like I can predict what its going to do in most situations; to be comftorable with one's car, as I'm sure most will agree, is priceless! I would, however, really like to get into drifting or atleast learn so that I can really test the limits of my car and see how far I can go in a controled slide.

I also finished 43rd out of 220 drivers on the "PAX":
