You may burn up the rectifier since you are in essence either turning it on and off really fast or making it work harder on a reduced voltage. (I can't remember which the factory dimmer does). I cannot answer to that. I am using the rectifiers that Panther sent with the kit. I dim them all the time and they have been installed over a year and I have not had a problem. So I am going to assume it works properly. But you could also install an on/off dimmer switch on the A/C side of the rectifier and get the 12 volts NOT from the backside of the gauge pod but from accessory/ignition hot.
