The distributors are different in the 88-89 and 90-92, and from what I have heard, some of the vacuum lines on the throttle body and coolant passges? I know on the Probes there is a coolant temp sensor on the intake manifold and a bung on the MX6's

I don't know if I found a couple of Frankenstein 92's but the two I parted had extra coolant inlets on the intake manifold that run through the plentium (witch means one extra outlet on the coolant pipe). Both had thottle body's like an N/A motor with a s***t load of vaccum lines running out the top.
Like Six said the plugg for the distributor and rotor is different, as well as the tack, injectors, and several other conections on the wire harnesses between the 88/89 and 90-92's the later models were built in north america but I think the Australians and other countries that imported from Japan from 90-92 use the early style harness at least for the tack conections ( like I said i think).
Other differences i've noticed the 4 relays on the fire wall as well as the two in front of
the fuse box (under the hood ) numbered 300 301... on the 88/89's have different # then the other . I've found PGT's and 90-92's with 3 sensor in front instead of 2.
I havent found a standard 90-92 gt with a water thermo switch under the plentium.
The 90-92's have no Water thermo switch connector in the lower passenger side of the rad. The door handles are different (at least on the 626's).
The 88-89 cams have a loab on the distributor side for a hydrolick fuel pump possibly for carbed b2200's witch is not on Probes or 90-92's ( did they make mx6/626's in 92 or just sell them one more year here in Canada?) .
I've found probe Gt's and mx6 Gts 90-92 with only one sensor on the thermostat housing.
I have only found trailling axel stabalizer (small bar between the lateral link bolts) on the 92's and their trailling axel ways more then any other year.

Some of these observations were made on a limited number of cars at some of the local junk yards, so anyone runing 90-92 gt's can conferme or disprouve these observations cause there's no teling what some people do to there cars.

By the way I was thinking of some possible way of using a 92 intake manifold (w/ the coolant passage but not the matching plentium) to pump ice water or freeon(incorrect spelling) trough it to cool the intake air. It's probably been done but could be quite efficient.

The dash piece under the steering wheel is different. The 88-89 is 1" shorter than the 90-92, so that would believe me to guess the middle section is different as well.

The 90-92 has a metal brace where the speaker attaches, and the 88-89 has the speaker attaching to the plastic. 88-89 owners, your in luck when it comes to upgrading speakers that have tweeters that stick out. 90-92 owners are screwed.

i can confirm the door handles being "taller" on the 90-92 6's. I tried swapping out door handles on my 89, and the height of the handle pissed me off! They are also easier to put into the door, as you don't have to take apart the lock assembly on the 90-92 handles

Really?

Intake manifold brace was 2 studs/nuts at the top and later just 1 bolt from underneath.
xtra water hose from intake>throttlebody>metal water pipe. xtra vacuum tee on #4
intake runner.(matches xtra tees on TB).

Here is what I'm talking about. The vent holes are under the molding for the 88-89 and on the molding for the 90-92.

88-89:

90-92:

Personnally I prefer the 90-92, better flow potential for the intercooler IMO.

Both have an Erebuni front bumper installed but that makes no difference as to the vent placement.

Just to add to some of the comments, since I recently did swap a 88 engine for a 90 angine, as well as the dasboard and other stuff; the distributor is different after 90, cause it was the same when i swaped. however, EGR valve and sensor are different in late '90 models and up (it has a hose that goes from the egr valve to the sensor). Front bumpers are diferent molding, and the 91-92 have some sort of lil' canals for air fluctuation. The wiring looks alike, but if you install the wiring on older versions of the GT it will not work, same viceversa.

The insides, I know the trim of the door panles is different (solid on newer models, stripes and contrast on older ones) and also most of the upholstery. Now, I dont know about this, because ive only seen it once, but I THINK the 90+ models had electric seatbelts (whic i personally hate, cause they attack you willingly) and the older models dont. The frame for the dashboard is a lot more beefier and heavy on the 90+ models, and the mounting of the speakers is on the metal, compared to the plastic of the older models. Also something I noticed on the 91 donor car and not on mine is the the instrument panel/gauge thingy (lol) has a boost meter on the speedometer. Mine ('88) dont. This I'm not sure again, but corrections are always welcomed.

Thats pretty much all I know. Sorry for redundant info and any misleads of info

NOTE: This is applicable to JDM Capella C2 GT models, may not apply to USDM MX6 GTs

Between 1genA and 1genB so far from what I've seen:
1. Tails - the JDM 1genA has chrome inserts.
2. Interior material - was a softer material in 1genA, was embroidered in 1genB.
3. Electrics - different electrical connectors on the engine in 1genB.
4. Decals - especially 4WS models, various decals were differently sized and located.

Moderator - one who arbitrates
Dictator - one ruling absolutely and often oppressively
Contrary to popular belief, these are not the same things...
