How to do a catback side exhaust
So I decided it would be fun to make my exhaust come out the side today. And after a few hours of hard work (4-5 hours) I did it and it looks AWSOME!
Heres how to do it. Tools needed 14,15 and 16mm socket wrench Grinding and cutting wheel Electric welder Form of lift. (if your gonna use jacks use jackstands, my friend almost killed himself by not using them) Can of WD-40 Glasspack (a motorcyle muffler like thing) Step 1: First off lift the car up somehow and get it secure. Step 2: Go to the back of the car and undo four hangers that are hooked up to the muffler. They have mushroomheads hooked up to the rubber mounts. I used some modified vice grips to push the heads out. Then there is one more to get in front of the rear right tire holding on to the exhaust pipe (cut that one off between the pipe and the rubber mount so you still have that bar on the mount) http://community.webshots.com/photo...350192496RSdFwV Step 3: Once all those hangers are off go to the middle of the car where there after the cat converter there is a section of exhaust where it is bolted together and undo those bolts (it's a pain if it's rusted over. In that case the bolts may break off, just replace them with new ones) http://community.webshots.com/photo...350189553KrdHml http://community.webshots.com/photo...350192878elpjod Step 4: Now cut the exhaust pipe at the area here the pipe goes over the rear suspention bar. This will make it easier to get the whole thing out. So now your pipe should look like this http://community.webshots.com/photo...350191893jIbsgZ Step 5: Now you have to cut the pipe in these couple of areas http://community.webshots.com/photo...350200417NefoIS Step 6: Once youve done that weld the Glasspack to the pipe so it holds like so http://community.webshots.com/photo...350192946ubvDlx Step 7: Now you gotta make two kinda a tricky cuts at an angle right here http://community.webshots.com/photo...350200870tttYgg Step 8: Once you've cut that you gotta reweld it so it looks like this. This has now created the perfect angle for the tube to stick out on the side Step 9: If needed take a file and just clean up your piece and the wholes. http://community.webshots.com/photo...350191370KKqSnh Step 10: Now to prevent any rust from taking place take a high heat primer and paint the entire thing. Make sure you completly cover all your welds nicly or they WILL rust out http://community.webshots.com/photo...350193003sGZcKd Step 11: Put the bolts back on and hook it back up to the exhaust. http://community.webshots.com/photo...350191399IxfUlT Step 12: Now you still have that unused hanger that was attached to the old pipe. Take the and hold your exhaust up as high as you can and pull the down the hanger and weld it onto the glasspack. (You may need two people for this) You want it to hold the thing up as high as you can cause it is pretty low to the ground but it shouldn't be too low. Step 13: Take your primer and prime that hanger weld up so again it doesn't rust. http://community.webshots.com/photo...350191838MNGXfA Step 14: Put on your desired muffler tip and YOUR DONE!!!! http://community.webshots.com/photo...350192462DcGjhB http://community.webshots.com/photo...350191856qWVutj There ya have it a new side exit exhaust. Im gonna get mine chromed at the local chromer and it'll look much better but i love it. This should also increase HP by a because the exhaust no longer has to go through all those turns. Feel free to give a little bit of Karma |
