question on atx tranny flush or filter and fluid change?>> please read>>
ok i already know about the pros and cons of changing the tranny fluid and i have decided at this point to go ahead and do it. here is my question, i have made some phone calls to some local shops and they say that they can do a tranny flush which involves using a pressurized machine that pushes tranny fluid and conditioners through the tranny which will clean out ALL of the passages, old fluid and gunk and dirt, and then they will replace it with new fluid for $89.95. is this a good idea or not? if not then should i just drop the pan, change the filter and replace the fluid? if so, how do i get all the old fluid out of the tranny, i know that dropping the pan and draining it will only get a couple of quarts out so how do i get the rest?? thanks lot
a buddy of mine had tuffy do this to his auto tranny in his 88 blazer with 190,000 on it and he said the tranny felt brand new when it was done, it has been two years and he says that the tranny still feels excellent. just food for thought
2 1/2 inch custom exhaust to bomz racing muffler, zombie chip (16 psi.), walbro 190lph fuel pump, MBC, magnecore 8.5mm race wires, msd blaster ss coil, cone filter w/adapter, rebuilt turbo, tons of replacement parts, 15.1@92mph spinnin' like crazy!!
but i mean has anyone done this? and i was trying to get your opinions on whether or not to let them do the tranny flush or to just change the filter an fluid on my own?

well...i believe by design, the auto tranny internals are porous to "soak" up and hold fluid....so the best way to do it, would be to drop the pan and let it drip for a while (like overnight to be safe?) and then do the power flush afterwards.
I've had the flush done to my oldsmobile, lots of crap came out, and did more damage than good (because the crap was holding sh1t together ) but if you have no worries about your trans, I wouldn't hesitate to do it
it seems to me that all of the particles and dirt in the tranny would be the cause for the slipping by not allowing the fluid to flow where it needs to and the dirt clogging the passages in the tranny. if all the crud and old fluid were flushed out i think the transmission would be able to function as it is supposed to?

it wouldn't seem to you that the clutch material had been ground away, and the only friction was being caused by the particles in the torque converter that are pressed against the old clutch material?
oh, and don't have a place do it, just do it yourself. you'll be in $20 for the filter kit, and for mobil atf, at around $5 a quart (estimate) that'd be something like $40 for fluid (estimate), so $60 and you know it was done better, and you got the experience...
i appreciate your help chino! i believe that our tranny holds six quarts correct? ok and when i drop the pan and drain the old fluid, how do i get ALL of the fluid out of the tranny and converter, i have heard that only like 2 quarts or something comes out if you just pull the drain plug on the pan? is mobil atf a good fluid? is that what is recommended? sorry for so many questions. also when i clicked on the link you gave nothing happened.

did you go to that link?
drop the pan, replace the filter, put your 3 quarts back in, keep the front end of the car jacked up, pull of the return line from the cooler, start it up, put the car in drive, and drain all of the old fluid out through that line into a bucket, and make sure you keep putting fluid in. once it's the same color coming out as going in, you're done.
do our auto's have tranny coolers? lol. I've never looked for one on my GL. I don't remember how many quarts it takes. but according to this: http://www.performanceprobe.com/info.../table_cap.htm
it takes 7.2 quarts.
