waaaaaaaaa lee chinese wastegate troubles what to watch out for

so, i bought this 44mm tial knock off vband gate, and pulled it down to port it a little, and tidy it up in general. i noticed that the valve only sealed perfectly (i'm fussy, it was good enough) in one orientation, and thus, i decided to lap the valve. no big deal. i decided to make short work of it by using a power drill to do it. no big deal. i decided to turn it backwards too.... big deal. the head of the valve was threaded onto the stem :-) its welded on now, and centred better, and seals perfectly no matter which way its turned.

moral of the story, if its a cheap one, check it out before bolting it on.

in order ...
looks ok
threaded surprise
drilled and counter sunk
ready to weld
welded
ground clean

might pay to check the dodgy ones thoroughly if you buy em ;-)

would surely suck if it fell off, and you got one of, NO BOOST, or TOO MUCH BOOST :-) not a problem, just a public service. the photos are on their way to the manufacturer as we speak, maybe they'll make it better next time ?

it was assembled properly, the design was bad, using a two piece valve... a mate suggested a chevy valve, but i dont need it and they arent readily available here...

I get lost in the fact that you linked all the photos. Why not resize them using photoshop, then host them so you can see all of them at once?

its also less obnoxious to assume that ppl want to see your massive boring pics :-)

if they dont, then they arent forced to like this...
