muffler or no muffler

So i bought a vrs tubing kit for my probe gt. I got it because no one in new mexico can mandrel bend. So I called up a few shops to see how much it would cost to have it welded and have a muffler installed. Most of the shops were still quoting me $350ish to weld and istall it. So I say I will install it if they weld it still $250 for a no name muffler and some welds. I talked to a couple of guys I work with suggested just to run a pipe out the back and save the money on the muffler. Then order a muffler from online. So my question is would it be horribly loud with just a 2.5in catback with no muffler on stock boost and is there any negative effects besides the noise level?

Yes, it will be horribly loud. And sound like [shizzle]. I know, I've tried it.

I'd just order an Ebay Special muffler for $30 and have that welded on.

megan racing muffler/fartcan would be my suggestion to buy. sounds well. nice and deep. you'll be the cat's ass with it.

Im running catless straight 3" pipe back with a muffler. Its doesnt sound farty or anything, but it sure sounds loud when you floor it. Sounds lovely on idle.

most of the cheap mufflers on there are straight through design and will work probably just as good as a magnaflow and other big name brands

Same here. I used to have a 2.5" inlet/dual 2.75 outlet Ebay one. Sounded 10x better than the stock muffler, and 100x better than no muffler at all

I like the no muffler sound...specially when you get on it and the turbo spools...but this is just my opinion

Assuming you are using a catalytic converter the sound wont be bad at all. I currently am using 2.5" tubing with no muffler from the cat back. It is louder than with a muffler understandably, but hardly obnoxious.

I have autocrossed the car at San Diegos Qualcomm Stadium which has very strict sound limits (93dbA @ 50ft). The car passed with flying colors at WOT

Now..without a cat...youre on your own there
