quick turbo question

Ok so i got my rebuild kit yesterday. I started checking the old stuff and looking at my new shiny bearings and what not and started to wonder about the piece still on the shaft next to my turbine wheel.

I began to wire wheel it and the stuff that appeared to be bad welding was all burned up carbon and oil. So does the sleeve on the common shaft come off, and if so, does the seal? next to the wheel come off as well? I can take a pic if you guys need to.

The Turbine and shaft is one piece. Take your turbine to a shop and have it microbead media blasted. That will get all of the softer carbon/oil coke deposits off of it. I would take it to a turbo shop and have your turbine seal ring land inspected to make sure it's still good. One thing with these stocker IHI's is that the ring land can get deteriorated to the point where it's best just to purchase a new turbine. They cost about $170.

besides turbo city are there any turbo shops in like indianapolis. Cause i would love to have the props and shaft inspected before i sent it to cali to have them say you need another shaft or something.

Truthfully, granted this is my eye and not a shop, after cleaning the ring lands look good as new. I was able to get all the old crap off and it looks perfect. I don't know how my compressor wheel is going to do though. There was a slight bend in one fin that i was able to fix and flatten out but at the time it seemed smart to dip it in muratic acid to get all the oil and stuff off. I knew it would eat the aluminum but not how quick. I dip'd it quickly 3 times and while it looks fine i'm worried i [fizzle]ed myself by causing a major imbalance in the wheel. So i might have to "barrow" a wheel from the junkyard.
