can you dissasemble and reassemble a tranny? if so check out gavins lsd install thread, it should give you an idea.

also: lol most mx6 pop out of 5th, not get stuck in.

a few years ago mine was stuck in 5th(mysteriously after getting the body work done at the body shop) and a tranny repair guy came and opended up the cover on the side that can be opened with the tranny on the car(this exposes the 5th gear stuff) and he freed it up this way)..hope that helps some...keep in mind that was only a temporary solution to the problem and if not taken care of WILL happen over and over and over(trust me i know).

Like Fierce said, pulling the end cap and aligning the shift rods will probably solver this.
Here is a link:
http://www.mx6.com/forums/1g-mx6-gen...-removing.html (Anyone ever taken the transmission appart without removing it?)

Could be the shift gate, if it's just the shift rods that are out of alignment, new shifter bushings should prevent it from happening again.

NO!! Don't waste your money on that manual!!!!

And you don't want to spend $50 on a 88 mx6 turbo?????

is the car rotten?? I mean, hell if it was in good shape, i'd give you $250 sight unseen!

$50 for any car is cheap!

Click here: 1992 Factory Workshop Manual

If you don't want the car, PM me where the car is, and I'll take it!

And, as noted, it can be a simple fix to get it moved, but it will happen again, due to the shift gate comming loose, and the only way to fix that, is split the tranny apart.

Lots of info and pic's on that if you search "shift gate"
you'll get all kinds of info, and see that its a very common thing.

figuring id post my $.02 here. when i bought my gt 5th gear would pop and never work. so i figured id need a whole new tranny so i pulled pff the access cover and just dissasembled and reassembled the 5th gear syncro and pulled the shift rod back and foward so it would sit right. ironically now it works and is outliving the clutch, thought it still will pop out of 5th every so often.

SO, sometimes things are easier and cheaper to fix than you think. try taking off the cover and just pulling the shift fork around and see if it realigns itself as a temp fix.

well actually i forgot to tell u guys that the guy with the mx6 (a friend) called me Thursday night and said i can have the car if i get it that night. so sure enough me and another friend drove out to get it in my sisters car. we were gonna tow it but i decided to drive it and slip the clutch to get going. the whole time being stuck in fifth gear! but at stop lights my friend woudl push me off the line until it was ok to get going. in my sisters car o well she will never know. lol but it ran great and drove good. needs tires and a little suspension work but thats it. but now im going to dig into the transmission. and it turns out i got the manual book from auto zone for free. the guy said wow were did u find this one? i was like in the back of everything hes like well ill just give it to u for one penny seeing as no one will ever buy this one. it was funny as hell.
