To Scream or not to Scream?

What's everyone's opinions on screamer pipes?

Who has or has run one?

Yes you can. You will find that you can hear knock better with a pair of earmuffs on anyways. Very distinct sound.

Not telling...................

I don't have any pics of the piece of pipe that is hard up against the back of the exhaust housing, stopping the exhaust gases from bypassing straight down the screamer pipe. Scott's useless fact #2. 2" pipe is a perfect fit in the housing of the RB20-30 series Garrett turbos. It gives you a 1mm lip around the exhaust wheel.

This eliminates the interruption of waste gate gases entering the exhaust system somewhere down the pipe. Causes no turbulence and better flow. To what extent? I dont know. It needs to be tested. I'm only considering it as it looks way easier to make than some of the nicely crafted downpipes I've seen here which take 10+ hours to fabricate.

Here's a nicely crafted one that does not vent to Atmosphere http://www.mx6.com/forums/1g-mx6-for...prototype.html (custom o2 housing prototype)

I'm just waiting for people to come in here and bitch and whine about screamer pipes crying out, 'But they are tooo loud and useless on street' and 'They are illegal anyway' and 'You just do it for the sound' and 'Wah wah wah, blah blah blah'

Like most of the modifications people do on their car are legal anyway???
I can say the same to all people running an atmo BOV.....

Its not legal here in Oz...three reasons, noise, exit position and emissions

An exhaust outlet needs to extend at least to the rear of the car, which rules out side exhausts on the street as well as screamer pipes, plus the screamer pipe is pre cat, so it'd fail for emissions reasons.

Problem is you can do alot of mods that are hard to detect, but a screamer pipe is pretty obvious.

No you cant. A BOV and a wastegate serve 2 different functions, and the dumptube is illegal for so many different reasons... and a BOV is not illegal.

Both ar illegal in OZ. They both don't comply to EPA requirements. Noise polution and bypassing the emmisions system.

I know they serve 2 different functions. I never said they do the same thing. I was just giving a contrasting argument that is similar.

Dont know about the US, but as Sabbai said, they are illegal here in Aus.
