Pre-Intercooler Cooling Pipe

Pre-Intercooler Cooling Pipe

i guess i like the idea behind it, but im already skeptic, and theres no numbers to back it up....making it more likely to be a waste of money

It is just another heat exchanger. Late 80's early 90's Nissan engine had these types of heat exhangers before the throttle body. They didn't really do a great deal, but would help a little with heat soak. Being aluminium, it will absorb the heat well, but I doubt you would notice any performance improvement.

Look similar? Nissan built the RB30 for Holden Australia.

looks like it would just help induce more heat to the intake by absorbing the undehood heat.

I think you could benifit from this if it was in your grill(away from the block). My car would be a good tester for that because I put some hood vents on. I put them right over the intake manifold. my under hood temps are pritty legit. + if I could heatwrap my exhaust mani my temps would be pritty chilly.

The cooling effect of that little pipe is few dozen watts at best, while the heat throughput is in range of kilowatts. I'd say it makes very little difference. Looks cool though.

The idea is sound, but that pipe is WAY too short to effectively cool any air passing through it. You're better off just having a good intercooler.

not enough surface area for the intake charge...even if that pipe gets cool from air flowing over it, inside it's just a pipe...the intake charge just blows through it without touching much of anything

it's almost useless...the nissan pics above have a throttle body and intake directly above a hot valve cover, those applications make sense.

If you have a section of pipe close to your exhaust manifold then that could be an option, maybe instead of or in addition to putting heat shielding.
