Ok so the problem is when i go to turn the car over with the key nothing other then a clicking from a relay under the hood. so i unplugged the wire that goes from the ignition to the starter and hooked a direct positive from the battery and sure enough the starter starts cranking the engine.
i can't find where the problem why it doesn't start with the key, what wire could be broken. there is a sensor on the bottom of the transmission (5speed) with two wires coming out of it with one of them broken and i can reattach it cause it broke right at the sensor and i was wondering if that like the clutch saftey switch which wont let the car start with the key? anywas let me know thanks.
are you sure it's a relay? it's more than likely your starter solenoid has gone bad. plug everything back up and try to start it again...if it doesn't start, take a hammer/breaker bar and tap the solenoid and then try to start the car again. one of the wires that is broken on your transmission is more than likely your reverse light switch. the switch your talking about is actually on your clutch pedal assembly.
There is the switch you are talking about. You can pull the connector of and then use a small flat head to pry the clip that holds the female or male spade to the connector. Once you get it out add another appriopiate spade. Also you could use a paper clip and straighten it out and file it flat works better to remove the spade.
Had the same problem with my ATX transmission neutral safety switch, no cranking of the engine at all, I cut some wires joined them together to bypass the safety switch and car started right away
do you need info on how to bypass it to be sure its the safety switch that prevents you from starting the car? if you say some wire is cut I wouldn't look elsewhere
1988 MX-6 LX and ATX but in really good condition, Blue, 109 000 miles,
Check clutch pedal interlock switch at top of clutch pedal - if you have cruise control there are two switches that work opposite - one is for cruise control's use.
