As opposed to pinging.. What d'you suppose is causing this:
At low Rpms, and only after my engine is warmed up there's a knocking saound from the engine. It's not the HLV's those are more of a tick. Is this something to do with piston rings, gasket etc.?
I mean, I have no garage facilities out here at school, but I'm just wondering if it's okay to drive it home, to have it properly looked at. ~150km away.
It doesn't sound that serious, but I'm a little concerned as it just appeared today.

kinda got the same problem, get your oil changed, always works for me. Then it'll start doing it again around the 3k mark then I know it's time to get another oil change. But mine mostly does it when the car is cold

Dude, you are so right on about that. I was coming up on the 3k, and I had let my oil get a little low, since I was planning on changing it soon anyway. Then some stuff came up and I postponed it a couple weeks. Go to check my oil, and I'm right on the brink. Also, it's pretty dirty.
So, I'll clean her out, and that oughta do it.
Thx for your help!

same here, when letting her run stationaire/idle i heard some kind of ticking noise too.
so i took of all the belts except the timingbelt and then had her ran again, i still heard it....
after taking a good listening i ended up at my waterpump which i changed.
after doing that ive never heard it again.

hi, my name is Dutch and i used to be a Mazdaholic
Dirty oil and clogged filters are notoriously bad on Mazda engines.
FRAM OIL FILTERS ARE GARBAGE!! They have killed countless Mazdas. NEVER, EVER BUY ONE, FOR ANY CAR!!!!!!!!! They once were the best, now they are the worst. Cardboard and glue and a cheap steel can with bad drainback valves and seals characterize them.
Preferably, use AC/Delco oil filters, or Bosch. AC/Delco is usually cheaper than Fram and much better quality and performance.
Fram filters also get clogged easily and quickly go into bypass mode, which means the filter is no longer filtering.
Always make sure the oil level is correct. Not too much, not too little.
Love your car, your car will love you.
