Power Windows...

...that move like a glacier.

What's a good fix? Do I need to replace them, or can I just find some silicone lube and grease the tracks. Also, is that a difficult job? I'm regretting putting those 6&1/2s in the doors now.

Seaching for a '6 again.

I just did this for the second time on my drivers side. The repair itself is not hard. Remove the 5 screws from the interior. Disconnect the door handle and all wires (power windows switch light etc) Lift it off. Do your best to not destroy the plastic shield. Now you in the door you can pull the power windows switches off the door panel and plug it in. I would recommend against using silcone lube as it is so light it drips off. Use something heavier like bearing grease. Use your fingures to grease all the exposed tracks and test. If it works better good if not off to step #2.

Step #2
Lower the window 3/4 way down. Peal the outside weather strip back to expose the edge of the door. Also peal back the inside a bit on the rear edge of the door. Remove the three screws and the rear inside track will come out. Then remove the two glass screws and carefully remove the glass. Remove the two nuts on the top and the three bolts on the bottom. Undo the many plastic clips around the wiring and bead track. Undo the wires. Push back and rotate the track counter clockwise towards the bottom rear hole in the door and remove. Ok now remove the clamp from the bead track and grease the beads and then replace. Grease the track by putting some grease in then using the attaching all the wires and using the door switch to move the track up and down. If it frees up and runs right then reassemble the reverse of taking it apart. If not step #3:

Step #3
Go to your local junkyard with a 12 volt battery and find a good motor or get a new motor from the parts store. With the track in hand remove the 3 8mm bolts and bend the tabs out of the metal retainer to release the beads. Pull slowly and the motor will come out. Grease everything and put it all back together and now you have working windows.

It's much easier than it sounds. I did all the way to step 3 in an hour.

Good Luck

If that doesn't work...

If u try that and your windows are still sluggish you may want to check the switch to see if the contacts inside of it need cleaned. My windows slowed down and eventually quit working all together. I originally thought that the glass was hanging up, and could use some grease, the motors were weak, etc. 'till my windows quit working all together. now that I've taken my switch apart(after much troubleshooting, and choice words),cleaned it and put it back in,my windows work better than they did when I purchased my car. That's my 2 cents.
