Question Oil lights came on???

Ok another question for my friends here a MX-6... Since I just re-did the head on my car this past weekend I am wondering if I did something wrong?? Tonight on the way home the oil light started to flicker on and off... Well I heard some knocking and got the car home, was about 1 mile away. Stopped the car and checked the oil, well oil level was good.. Now comes my question, could I have damaged the oil relay sensor when I did the head job, or could I have a bad oil pump which is not pumping oil correctly?? Any suggestions would be helpful.... Thanks a lot guys and gals....

if your oil light flickers it may well be a switch thats faulty although u didnt touch anything at the bottom end i would hope you havent burnt a bearing hence the knocking noise. bottom end knocks are never a good sign especially after major work. maybe an oil gallery is blocked or some filings got into the oilways in the head hence starving the return pressure in the engine.

let me know of the outcome as i am about to head down the same path as you in way of taking the engine out and freshening her up.

Unhappy On the rack...

I took my car in today to a certified Mazda service center to have it looked at, about 3 miles away from me... THe car starts right up and ran good... But the knocking from thr top of the valve cover was pretty bad... I told the mechanic what happend and that I followed thier repair procedures and torque specs for all that I did and that I suspected that the oil pump might have went out.. He said that is what he thought as well but will do a complete diagnostic on it tomorrow... I am hoping that is all it is... *fingers crossed* I also have a line on a 1988 MX-6 LX for $150 with a bad tranny, body and engine in excellent shape.. Perhaps another project car looms in my future.
