Yo, for one, try using higher octane gas, i think in Cali it's like 91 or something, we gots 93 over here, hahah, nah playin, but really if u using regular gas, most likely ur **** will be pinging. ANother, go to ur local parts store pick up new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and replace them with professional help being that u've never tuned it before. It should help somewhat.

There's no reason a stock mx-6, turbo or otherwise, should ping on regular gas. Besides, pinging dosent happen at idle. I think he's hearing HLA noise, which means the engine needs a good cleaning.

U probably rite, i was jus goin based on experience i had with my N/A. **** was buggin, i mean i used to use regular gas, and i used to hear the bitch ping, so i said f%$k it, i'ma drop some 93 in that bitch, and ever since it never pinged. But yea, whats an HLA? Sometimes, u should watch what kinda gas u use too, i mean some stations don't sell good, and the gas be sitin in the tanks forever, and if u can use name brand ****, like texaco, shell, or chevron. They use quality ****, they can't afford to use ****ty gas anyway, they reputation is more important. but yea, i work at a station, that why i'm talkin so much ****. But also so ur engine can last longer. Jus my input still! One!

On the nonturbo, pinging with regular gas would be caused by faulty/worn ignition components (mostly spark plugs and wires), incorrectly adjusted timing, or excessive carbon deposits. Give it a tune up and run some techron through the fuel system and it should help.

Tru, thanks for the advice still, i've been droppin the fuel system cleaner from chevron, that techron stuff, along with the premium gas only. You really feel a difference, and after warmin up, u can see the **** comin out, all th black smoke and stuff, but after that its striaght. Thank god its stop, i mean it dont ping no more. But yea what the hell is the hydralic lash adjuster for what?

I am getting a similar noise when idle. It happens when the car shakes in "drive" at idle (I have an ATX). I can shift it to "neutral" and the noise would stop. Is this consistent with HLA noise? I could also stop the noise if I ease off the brakes a little when at idle. The car would stop shaking and the pinging would stop too. I don't ever get pinging noises when the car is moving.

Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call when you are unable to speak?

not music to my ears

i have a "symphony" of noises coming from my engine
i hear knocking - from the crank. I hear really noisy ticking - from the valve train. I just took the valve cover off today and the hla's are really making some noise. i think the bearing particles from the crank bearings are plugging the hla's and causing them not to pressurize. I think i'll put in some 15w40 and some sort of oil treatment to make it less noisy. So, go get your car looked at by a pro and get it fixed. Do it right the first time (not like me) and learn when you can.
