Seats

hi guys i am looked through the website a little bit and couldnt find anything that i was specifically looking for. I am a proud owner of a 91 mx6, (non-turbo) no a/c or electronic suspension either for that matter. anyways. I am looking to change my seats but I want a rather stock looking setup, did any 1G cars come with buckets? if not did the 2G?, and will 2G fit in a 1G.

the gt came with some comfy seats. adjustable in every direction too. if not, the probe had power seats, but you would have to wire that yourself.

Ken - sounds like you have a "DX" model (if you have manual crank windows; you have a DX). The seats in these just plain suck and are cheap. You should be able to find an LX or GT MX-6 in the junkyard and pull the seats from it - they are much, much more supportive and are a direct bolt in to a DX.

just a heads up, seats from a 88-92 626, as well as a probe will also work, and as Magik8 said, much more comfortable than what you'll have in your car already.

On a side note, if you happen to find them, although rare, the mx6 le's, and some probe GTs did have a leather option!

Yup. And the Probe GT's are pretty easy to find with leather seats. I just poicked up a 91 with seats that are in near-mint condition

Leather seats are going to fairly difficult to find. But the LX and GT seats are the same and direct bolt in like everyone has mentioned. The probe seats are power, and will sit a little bit lower than the LX/GT seats will.

One note about your engine swap idea, it will be very complicated and I'm going to avert any mention of "SEARCH N00B" or "GTFO", so this is everyone else's warning as well.

You're best bet for faster performance would either to purchase a GT outright, or purchase an FE3 (from overseas) and install that. The FE3 is a direct drop in, you will just have to worry about engine management if it didn't come with the harness+ecu.

There are a few threads in this forum with regards to turbocharging an LX/DX, so please take your time and go through them.

Thanks!

thank you, i will, it was just a thought that popped into my head when my boss asked me if it was supercharged, and i thought it would be a pretty cool idea to have a supercharged MX-6. i am going to properly fix the body first. then we'll see how the performance goes

i have the exact same set up in my FE-DOHC 626gt.

mx6gt seats are the way to go my friend, so much nicer then any other easy option.

the 1st gen probe seats will bolt in also, but even a probe GT seat is about as cumfy as your non GT base seats. wouldnt be worth the work.

2nd gen seats can fit, 2 or 3 of the holes line up, but not all the holes. i installed a set a few years back, and had to tweak a bit i remember. (i put a 2nd gen steering wheel on that car too) lol.

Your boss really doesn't know too much about cars...does he? Well if you are looking to spend that amount of money on an engine, sell the car and buy the GT.

With crazy ideas like that you got to either show you got the resources to do it or be flamed for an idea thats not going to happen. That's just the way MX6.com works. I've been in that spot, now I carefully watch my words

Bah, the Supercharger is a fine *idea*..

it's just ridiculous in practice.

I liked my DX seats... .until I swapped to GT seats.

The 626 LX/GT seats will swap also.

MX6 LX/GT seats look a little cooler than the 626 LX/GT seats.

The 626 LX/GT seats feel just the same on your butt as the GT seats.
