Question on Tire, Rim Size
I am running 205/60-15 on my 91 LX. I am pretty sure the after-market wheels are 7 or 7.5 inches wide. From outer lip to lip they measure 8''. I have no idea about the offset but I seem to remember it as 35. They work fine but I need new rubber and one rim in slightly bent.
I would really like to keep my speedometer accurate. Although it generally is very accurate, I checked it with a GPS recently and found it's 4% fast (driving at 100 indicated, my real speed is about 96). I was dead on before I topped up the transmission fluid, I should check that I put the speedo gear back in properly, maybe I screwed it up somehow.
As far as I can tell the original 185/70-14's have approximately 856 rev's per mile (as per tirerack.com info). I thought that the 205's would be an exact match but according to tirerack.com they're actually a little taller. 195/60's would be closer in diameter to the original 14's. Maybe this explains my speedometer.
I want to get 16' wheels and there's a good deal on some 205/55-16's. However, these are about 835 rev's per mile, which is about 2.5% different.
I guess the correct size would be 205/50-16? These are about 1% different as far as I can tell.
Also, I believe the stock offset is 42? I was looking at a set of 16 x 7.5 wheels from a 300zx non-turbo, but they're a 45 offset - could this work? I suppose a 7.5 wide rim should have 225 rubber on it? I would like to stay with 205.
