gt overheated and died

the car went from cold to hot in about 10 minutes. then it started smoking and now it just dies without any gas. when the radiator cap is removed steam comes shooting out. any idea what that could be?
i wasn't sure how to search for that so sorry if this is an easy fix.

most likely head gasket. and have the head checked out. most likely you warped it, and you will need to have it milled, or if you warped it badly, might have to replace it. bottom end is probably fine. i wouldnt even worry about it.

I would not even waste time getting the head checked or milled.....

throw it away!..get a new or reconditioned head...but before you start up the engine next time, see if you can figure out why all the water ran out of the engine, so that it doesnt happen again.

1st check your compression, if anything below 100 psi on the cylinders the block need to be done also. It could have been the radiator clog and or the thermostat stuck open, leaking water from some were or fan didnt go on etc...Good Luck.

a blown headgasket alone will usually give you less then 100psi on at least one cyl... because it just leaks out. has nothing to do with the block at all. even a warped head alone will usually give you #'s pretty low.

unless you talking about after he goes through the top end, and has it up to spec. then i can understand what your saying, but at that point, its just common sense if his #'s are low after going through the top end. cause what else would be left?

I was talking about making sure the leak is fixed after the head is changed.

It could have been a bad headgasket that could have caused the loss of coolant, but then again it could have been a leak in the radiator/hoses/water pump/heater core.

Its more about taking the time to make sure that everything is ok before assuming that all your problems are fixed after fitting a new head.

You wanna sell it?

BTW, both of my cars have been very reliable. Maybe you need to exorcise the demons outta that thing.

Currently have two 1988 MX-6 GT 5 speeds, both white, one stock, one not. Also have a big ass Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 Diesel for fun.
