Angry I NEED HELP! 1G MX-6 GT Transmission "Half Shaft" Problem...

Ok long story short, the shop that put my tranny in a year ago didn't put new bolts in like i asked and as a result i got this!

Stripped bolts and threads on ???? some part that has a name and i don't know what it is... Heres some pics of what i`am working with.

If you can see, there is a plate that holds x4 bolts that keep the half shaft/drive shaft into place. i believe it bolts into the engine block. All four of these threads are stripped! ...and there is still a bolt stuck in the thread that won't come out. Now i understand i`am gonna have to Drill, Tap and re-thread all of this but... What procedures should i do to fix this? I want to fix it on my own without bringing it into a shop. I don't have the money right now. Anybody ever done this before or had this problem?

the bolts that are east/west dont thread into the block. They thread into the support arm. They do stick out a little so they act as locating pins to the block. The bolts that are north/south do thread into the block. Those youll need to rethread.

get some ez outs at craftsman. They are basically a reverse threaded drill bit. Drill into the bolt with one regular bit to make a hole, get a small hammer and tap the other reverse bit into the hole. Get your drill and pull that [fizzle]er out.

Either that or use a rachet and as your spinning it get a flat head screwdriver on the inside of it to force it out while you spin it at the same time. If its cross threaded and spins its easy to get out. If its stuck its more of a bitch but still pretty easy for the most part.

Also that thingy is the intermediary shaft, and the part with the bolts is your intermediary shaft hub and bearing assy.

Anyway after you get the bolts out make sure you try to spin it before you pull out the axles or try to pull it out. Believe it or not it will spin. I didn't think so and was stuck here for a whie trying to figure it out till i took someone's advice on here and decided to swallow my pride and tap it. And like i said, the dumb thing flipped over and well made me look stupid in the process

something else.

I would take out your passenger side axle so you can take out the intermediary shaft. That way it will be much easier to retap the bearing assembly and block. I think 2 of those go in the block, been a while since i've had reason to take apart my tranny.

Also i'm sure you might know this but if you take out both axles at the same time make sure you use a socket or something that you can slide into the differential. Other wise your side axle gears will fall into the diff housing. I practiced this at school one day with another tranny. Got bored in the 3 hours i was stuck there and wanted to see how hard it is to fix. Let me tell you, i wouldn't do it for extra credit lol. But i'm sure i pissed off someone in the MTX class that was beginning that week. O the lucky new combers that pic that tranny

if you have an axle that keeps popping out you more than likely need a new c-clip on the side axle gear end of the cv-shaft. Either that or the shaft is no longer plunging and changing its effective length with suspension travel so it pulls itself out when you make a turn or hit a bump.

if the heads on the bolts are stipped, they make stripped bolt pullers. They're sockets that go over them and dig into the sides to extract them. I have a set and they get a lot of use.
