Lightbulb Back-up light switch

My reverse lights have stopped working....not the bulbs...I can't find the switch on the tranny...or is it near the shifter?
My repair manual has no mention of it's location....

Thanx...

the switch on the gearbox of my car for reverse light is the one on the frontside of the box , the other switch which is near the gear selector is the 5th gear leaner switch ... i had the opposite problem a while ago where the switch would stick and the reverse lights would stay on , i replaced the switch ...

Thanx...

I appreciate the help cam22t...however...the only thing that resembles a switch is located on the very bottom of the transmission/gearbox...at least that I can find....

Might have a chance this weekend to look a little harder...but nothing on the front....(read:easy to find, reach and repair)

Are our cars identical?

I assume you have a manual tranny? The backup light switch is located near the lower passenger side of the battery (might be under the fuse block, from what I can see in my manual). It has a four-pin connector on it that only uses two of the pins. The connector should have 2 wires leading to it: one black wire with a yellow stripe and one red wire with a green stripe. By shorting these together, the reverse lights should turn on. Hope this helps.

ok , its not too hard to find ...
the gearbox has three lots of wiring going to it .

(1) this wire goes to the speedo cable (speed sensor)

(2) this wire goes to the bottom of the gearbox near the gear selector (5th gear lean switch)

(3) this wire is the one you want , its the one near the end off the gearbox , the black cover plate on the end of the gearbox near your tire , if you start there and follow back towards the engine you will find it . mind you , you are going to have to get under the front of your car ...

Unhappy Can't find it!!!

I have spent over an hour under my car...found a few switch-looking things...but none have those colours coming out...I even confirmed the wire colour codes at the bulbs...(they're fine!), I just can't locate a switch on my 5 speed...found one on the bottom with green-coded wires....another at the shifter-end...but NONE with those colour wires that are on the back-up light sockets....by the way, what is a "5th gear lean switch"??

I'm ready to pay to have it fixed...maybe get them to change my tranny fluid while they are in there...sounds like a challenge...going thru the speedo cable....does it have to be siphoned out??

changing the fluid isn't very hard-- there's a drain plug just like the engine, but the 'hard' part is getting the new fluid in-- have to use a long funnel and put it in the speedo cable hole after you unscrew it and remove it.

When i did my clutch I had to unscrew two rather large bolt-like things with wires coming out of them... I assumed these were related to reverse lights etc.

The two wires coming out of my tranny for the reverse lights are green. To test, have one wire go to the battery and the other to a ground. Put the car in reverse and the lights should go on. No key turning required.
