The F2 and the F2T ARE NOT the same inside!!

For the longest time everyone claimed (and assumed) that the F2 crank was cast, while the F2T was forged. Recently some people have been saying that both engines are the same aside from the pistons, and thus the F2 has a forged crank as well. I don't know where this info came from, but I've always doubted it...I've just been keeping my mouth shut.

Well, to set the record straight once and for all...RandyS (from the miata.net board) is building his own stroked and bored F series motor with the KIA FE3 head...It will be 2.3 liters. He has disassembled all the F series motors and in a recent e-mail to me he said:
"I have a F2 NA crank here and it is cast (although quite substantial and I wouldn't worry about putting power through it)."

So there it is guys...The F2 (NA motor) doesn not have a forged crank sorry...he did say it's beefy though, so that's nice.

sure it will. its not strong enough to handle the power from the F2T, so it wont last very long at all.

btw - thanks antiSUV!!

I guess Mazda just decided to let the turbo unit superscede the N/A cast unit in terms of over the counter replacement parts. They tend to do things like that often... just one less part to carry
