chkd the faqs need wisdom on front cv axles

my freind replace driver side axle years ago, now passenger side is clicking real bad after dodging deer at 60 mph and spinnin out .... napa has brand new axle for 100. i need to know about halfshafts and if there are rings or anything to stop me or advise pics any help will be nice thx homies

The hardest part will be the ends of the shaft ( the ball joint can be tough but if it is just disconnect the control arm at the subframe) where they go into the hub and the transmission.


For the hub side get a large steel punch or something else that'll work and place it in the divot in the axle stub.

It helps to have the hub pushed out from the car so the shaft can go backwards, a piece of lumber wedged in works well.

Dont beat on the stub it's self or it'll be mushroomed and it might not come out.

For the inner half there will be a snap ring that just keeps the shaft from falling out. ant corrosion will be a bigger problem.

You just need to knock it out with a hammer and usualy a steel drift or rod on the back side of the inner joint.


It's a simple job but if you have never done it before it could take a good part of a day to get it done.
