Hey guys, I'm know I'm a toootal noob here, but I've been looking everywhere online with very little results, and I bring my question to you.
Recently, I've ventured into fixing the many small problems in my 1991 mx-6 lx that have been popping up, and the main one that I need fixed, asap ( good weather provided ) is getting my ac/heater blower to properly work. Long story short, when I move the slider for the blower, nothing happens, and I've already figured out it's the wiring harness, which I've tested by pulling down on the harness with very certain pressure, and the blower/heater comes on, just like I need it to. However, I can't keep my center console taken apart whenever I need the heater to work.
So... I can fix the wiring, I'm a computer repair technician by trade, and wiring is my specialty, but, I've run into a snag. I can remove the trim piece that covers and holds the hvac and stereo, and so on, and I can even remove the screws for the hvac unit, but I cannot remove the hvac itself. I looked on the back, and it has several connections. A wiring harness, running to the electrical of the hvac, and the cables ( I can only describe them as bicycle brake cables ) that run to the sliders that control what vents are being used and how much heat/cold air to deliver. The wiring harness I know I can remove, but I have no clue how to remove the vent cables.
does anybody here have any experience/knowledge on this topic? Any advice/pictures would really be appreciated. Winter is going to hit soon, and where I live, we average at least 3 feet of snow each year, and i'm gonna need my heater/defroster to work at full capacity for the winter.
Anyway, thank you guys very much for even reading all this. I really hope somebody can help.
all i know is that for the lx's ,the cables that control the vents have hooks they're attached to but it's pretty difficult to take them off, i would suggest to go to the junkyard and hopefully practice removing anything from that one so you know what to expect when you do your own.

its not too difficult, what some people have suggested is to attach a string or something to the cables after you take them out so that when you pull the hvac out you will know which way to put them back. you could just pull the string and reattach the cables and your done. good luck
