Need Help From The Experts! 1G Axle Related:

Ok so I am hoping Gavin or someone can help me out with this one...

First of all Its a MTX `91 MX6 GT,

I need to find a new set of half shaft hub/support arm bolts. Does any one know where i can buy them as a complete set or does anyone know the bolt specs where i can just buy them individually?

I am really clueless on this and I was also wondering if I need a new axle C-clip since the axle keeps coming out of the transmission...? Where can i buy one of these too if needed?

I am trying to tackle this myself. Heres the link to my old thread explaining more about the problem.

Only two of those bolts actually thread into the block. The other two are not threaded into the block and are just to help brace it. You could go to the junkyard and get what you need, or just go to the auto parts store and get the bolts that thread into the block. That shaft itself does not have a c-clip where it fits into the transmission, but the axle that slides onto it should. You should replace that seal on the transmission because it appears it could have been damaged when your shaft fell out. When you get it all together make sure to fill up the transmission because it is probably low on fluid.

the axle to the half shaft is female and does not have a c clip, as I just had to re attach mine during a hub swap.

Go to the junk yard and get a set of bolts. If you need another half shaft in great shape...PM me.

Ha ha thanks guys, yeah I dont know jack about axles.

So I'll be needing: ???

- "Axle to Transmission Seal" ..or whatever its called?
- Gear oil for the transmsmission. What do you guys recommend?
- Bolt set. Do I tell the parts store the year/make/model of my car and they'll have them?

- Possible C-Clip if my axle keeps popping out on corners?

get some dexron ATF for the transmission

go to a junk yard and pull the bolts from any manual F2 equipped car...or check here for parters. I don't have them unfortunately. If they are still popping out of your transmission...you have more serious issues.

Gear oil offers better protection then ATF fluid, I use 80W 90 gear oil.

I have the 4 bolts if you need them and about 20 half shafts also.

(I think the bolts are m10 x 1.25 but it might be best to pull one out if you are going to buy some at the hardware store.)

if i remember correctly, the one with the 10 stamped on the head is one that threads into the block. take it with you to get the right sizing if you have another car you can use for the trip.and use 75w90 gear oil, not atf. personally i use redline gear oil. atf will work, and it will be thinner, thus sapping less power and allowing more wear..... thus shortening the life of your trans significantly ( its a trick used by drag racers to eek out that last .25 horsepower to get times down. they expect to rebuild transmissions on a regular basis. many people use their trick thinking they're only making more power, and without realizing the consequences of trying to get every bit of power out of a daily driver )

For manual transaxle oil Mazda recommends:
At all temperatures: ATF
Above -5 F : 80w 90 or 90 gear oil.

75w 90 is also good.
The only thing to remember if your running gear oil in the winter is to let the car warm up a little, even in neutral the gear is spinning in the transmission and gets the fluid moving.

Zach you live in a hot enough area and if your still running a turbo the size of a basketball you might want the added protection of gear oil over ATF fluid in your transmission.

On a side note, Honda's use motor oil in there manual transmissions (Hahaha) but I guess with no torque there is no wear and no protection is needed.

Update:

Ok guys like I said before I DONT KNOW JACK ABOUT THIS and I still want to do it myself.

While the main issue was the CV/Half Shaft Hub Bolts were messed up and pulling the axle out of the trans, I come to discover something odd looking with the other axle. (Left, Drivers side axle) aka (the shorter axle)

Would someone please tell me if something looks wrong with this picture? To me it looks like the axle has slid out of the trans about an inch. It still works and turns the wheels...

(Driver Side, Left MTX `91 MX6 GT) This is right where the axle connects into the trans.

yer that big bit needs to be resting up against the transmission, its not even close to where it needs to be

She got torque? Yer she pulls like a 15 year old.

Push the axle back in, if it still comes out, change the C- CLIP.
