WTF is that?

looks to be broken, smaller broken piece is AWOL...could it be from my Holset? I can't find an exploded view of the HE351 to verify or not. Oil flow through my Holset has been suspect at best.

What material is it? aluminum, iron, steel or a piece of bearing.
Check the oil filter for metal particles, I use tin snips and make a huge mess but the sell a pipe cuter style tool to cut the bottom/end off the oil filter.

Are you or have you broken in new bearings? are you running a heavy duty unsprung pressure plate, it can cause the crank to walk and grind the edges of the crankshaft thrust bearing off. If you still have the oil pan off you can check the main bearings for wear by pulling the main caps an checking them with the crank in place.
You can change the main bearings with the engine in the car and the transmission still on, by pulling all the main caps off the crank (the oil pump, timing belt, rear main seal and clutch will hold the crank up) leaving you enough room to insert a small metal piece * in the oil journal on the crank and turning the crank by hand using a ratchet to push out the upper half of the bearing, lube up the new one and push it in by hand.
* the piece can be a small length of coat hanger bent L with the longer piece inserted in the journal or an nail with a rounded head....

it's the consistency of 'pot metal', like the door handle 'hammer', very porous. There's no metal particles in the oil, no broken bearings...no broken anything on the bottom end.

I'll try and get a better picture. My Pressure plate is sprung ACT street stage II I believe with the extra springs.
