car won't start

Hey guys

Yesterday i removed my BOV and replaced it with a straight pipe to get my car to flutter. it's an MX-6 turbo 1990.

This morning on the way to a mates house, the car was alternating between 1500 - 2000 revs whenever i put it in neutral...

On the way back home, i had the cruise control on and i started losing speed. i turned it off and tried pressing the accelerator but the car wasn't going anywhere. it was still on though.... then i looked at the temp guage and saw it was on hot. i pulled over, opened the bonnet and saw the radiator hose had a massive split in it. i waited for the car to cool down and i tried to start it. it sounded like it was trying to start but it sounded way different to every other time i've started the car. i don't know if that makes any sense LOL xD but i'm no mechanic :P it wouldn't start though and water would just burst out of the split hose.

I think there might be a vacuum leak from a hose i blocked off yesterday when i took the BOV off which could explain for the wacky revs but i don't know about the car not wanting to start :S head gasket maybe? if it is, is it a hard job to replace it?

sorry if any of my questions were stupid :P

thanks

-Jimmy

Actually had a buddy that had the exact same thing happen. You're probably going to need a new head and gasket. Or at least get your current head checked out, might need a resurfacing. His was warped and had to be replaced. Put my extra head and a new gasket on and it fired right up after that.

any car can be made to flutter. you basically take off the BOV and bridge the hoses from the turbo to the cooler with a straight pipe and also block off the vacuum hoses. it's recommended to replace the stock airbox with a pod filter. it'll be heaps louder especially if you boost the turbo a bit or get a bigger cooler.

This.

But compressor surge SOUNDS AWESOME.

“One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work.”

Well actually that aint true. There has actually not been one turbo that has been killed by excessive force sent back to the turbine blades. Its generally just the age of the turbo that will make it die, not the reverse effect your getting without a blow off valve.
