I stumbled upon an immaculate interior in the junk yard some time ago. i pulled the dashboard (50), sunroof (35), and headliner (25). headliner and sunroof are already in (child's play), dash is removed and have already cleaned/prepped for paint. the biggest pain is to change the dash pad or the center console finisher (what houses the radio/climate control) the entire dash assembly has got to be almost completely disassembled. has anyone attempted this or have plans to? i doing mine because the orig. dash was cracked and just trash. i've had too much fun in this car to let it fall to crap.
thanks for the link, i'm going a little further and swapping out the heater core and blower and removing the evaporator. during reassembly i also had some amount of silicone sealer laying around so i completely sealed all the boxes/connections and also all the ductwork and connections. although i do this for a living and i love doing it, i only want to do this once.
i've done the swap myself, used the blue flawless dashboard and swapped the grey center console bezel so it looked legit, was nice, up until the car sat for a year in the hot sun and it cracked eventually. But just take your time with it, and it's not too difficult of a task to accomplish.
painting came out darn near perfect. best thing is it's not a glossy finish so it won't reflect on the windshield. the key to painting vinyl is in the cleaning, preparation, and absolutely use adhesion promoter.
car has never had good heat until i changed the heater core and found a bunch of red silicone sealant piled up inside. you can always tell the guys who don't know sealant (they use red).
