Right CV Shaft - How Much Play?
I installed my new Cardone CV shaft and had a little trouble with the cir-clip. I should have replaced it but managed to get it back together - albeit with the help of a hammer.
As I changed my oil tonight, I noticed that the inner part of the CV shaft is slightly loose on the intermediate shaft. I can wobble it around and it has a little bit of play sliding in and out on the intermediate shaft. Is this normal? Is it going to cause me problems? I can see it wearing out the oil seal on the carrier bearing on the intermediate shaft, but otherwise...? It doesn't seem like it's going to slide off, it's just a little loose.
The only thing I can attribute this to is a little too much hammering to get the shaft on. Maybe I damaged the splines? But, this is pretty hard metal, it has to be. Could the Cardone shaft be a poor machine job with sloppy and slightly large splines?
