.
I put a MPV blower motor in my MX6 DX (1992), and it made a HUGE difference!!! I think my original one was on it's way out anyway as the motor was starting to make noise. I swapped the huge plastic white blade assembly over just in case, but they looked similar. I got mine for $10
It's like double the air coming out (and it blew a bunch of CRAP out when I first turned it on #4...probably dust and what not sitting in the vents)I say go for it! |

Necro post - recently acquired a 92 MPV blower fan, I'll see if that fits in my '90 626 GT... ---
Edit - update - '92 MPV Fan does *not* fit. darn it. Electrically compatible - plugs hook up (one is direct fit, the other i had to remove the spade from the holster to go into the car harness.. ) - Powers up fine. All blower speeds work It will physically not fit. The diameter is too large, the squirrel cage is too large. It would be impossible to make it fit. Note- the combination that doesn't work is '92 MPV + '90 626/MX6 So.. is it the 626 that is the problem? or the '92.. is a '90 MPV that different than a '92 MPV blower fan? It will fit. You need to remove the lip on the fan motor. Some are metal and others are plastic. Use a grinder to remove the lip. Stay close to the edge. Once the lip is removed then try to fit. More will have to be taken off. The blade you will need to use from the 626. Get some sticky foam insulation that is used to seal windows and doors. Use that to seal. So you cuts will not have to be exact.
Also the fan runs the wrong way. I think it does. Test the direction on the stock fan and then the MPV. Just reverse the wires and it will spin correctly. |

So, I got this '92 MPV blower fan out of the front, not the rear(is there one in the rear? ) .. perhaps there is a difference... but it rotates in the same way as the 626 that I have, and it is electrically the same (plugs ), the fan itself is the same shape and general layout, just.. bigger.. bigger spacing on the screw holes, bigger fan.. much bigger motor(the whole point of it.. )
I'm sure that just removing the lip on the fan motor would not do it, as the it screw holes are further apart on the MPV fan, not only that, but the fan blade mount is a different configuration... the MPV fan motor has a "D" shaft - round but flatten on one side, the 626 fan motor has a round shaft flattened on two sides.. and the diameters are significantly different.. It would be possible to machine the 626 fan blade to have a larger hole, which would work on the mpv blower motor.. but then the MPV fan was held on with a clip, and the 626 one is held on with a screw.. the MPV blower fan motor shaft is not threaded at the end.. so there wouldn't be a way to hold the 626 fan blade on. I'm not quite willing to destroy my perfectly good 626 blower motor fan at this point... just for more air... I think I'll look for another 626 blower motor, and maybe another MPV blower motors - see if there is a different MPV blower motor/year/whatever. And then maybe just get another mx6/626 blower motor. The idea being that I should be able to do a minimum amount of work to make the MPV blower motor fit.. it's close.. but not close enough.. |
