ATTN: I made the car pass smog with zombie's chip

well the car isnt mine, the car was zombieSS's old mx6, that he sold to jim. dumpedmx6's freind.

Ok. we tryed smoging th car once, it faild emitions. dont know y it did the 1st time. but today we took it to a freind of mine, to smog the car. and it failed. why did it fail?? becasue timing on zombie's chip iss advanced. so what did we do to make the car pass? we adjusted the distributor manually, and retarded the timing. tested teh car again. and it passed cali emitions.

so for anyone who has faild emition with zombie's chip. retard the timing.

but again, the car wasnt modded much, the car had an air filter, 2.5" eshaust, WITH cat, and the chip.

I think it would be easier to just install a socket so you can swap the chip for the stock one for emission. All you'd have to do is put back zombie's chip after testing!

Ahhh ha... so THAT's why I failed emissions. Awesome, I'll have to switch back in my stock ECU and try it out again. Thanks for that info.

just as i said retard it manually, just mark the spot were your disty is at. get a marker something and mark it, then lossen the 2 bolts that hold the disty in place, movie it back, not alot, just keep retarding it till the car pass the requierd emitions. so its like testing it till it passes. after the car passes, bring the disty back to the mark that u set it at, and u will be at the timing u should be at. done.

I don't know what kind of place you went to, but none of the places I've ever gone let you do that. They all have a line that you have to stand behind and you can get nowhere near your car, it's a legal thing. Not just for insurance reasons, but so you don't do what you did, pass emissions when you shouldnt

they give you a few days to come back so if it did pass go home and change it and go back and test again

and then they charge you to test it again, a safer thing to do would be this: unless you know of a shady smog place, just install your stock chip for ease of mind and wallet
