Quick and Easy Timing question

Was having a look at the timing on the 6 today.

I just want to make sure what i did is correct. Where the timing marks are, on the right side there is a T above a mark .. this is top dead center? Then towards the left there are 4 small marks, then a big mark with a 10 above it. This is 10 BTDC? So for the correct timing, it should be half way thru this big mark, and the next mark to the right, which would be 9. Is that right?

Stupid question, but I just want to make sure what I did was correct. Thanks!

Unsure on a non-turbo but to get a true reading make sure you ground the green test connector while timming the engine.

Yeah I did that, and it's a turbo. It appears the timing was set to about 12 - 13 BTDC, I changed it back to 9 (assuming I did it correctly).

I bet the previous owner had it timed and did not know to ground it.

I dont know how you could set it without grounding, when it's not grounded my timing at idle fluctuates all over the place by a few degree's ... is that normal?
