Is there any other way to get new motor mounts that are the polyurethane, besides making your own? I need new mounts REALLY bad, and I was hoping that if there weren't any to buy, that someone could make some on thier car... and sell them to me.
And as for axles, I have it in the plans to replace, but I never could really tell if the AutoZone ones were any good. Can I just get some opinions on them? That way we can all find out if they are junk or not.
Oh, and when I did my clutch install... I thought I put everything back together, but now my cruise control won't work.. It did seem to be on it's last legs, seeing as a good bass kick could make it stop criusing. (And that's WITH a 1.5 fara cap!) So basically I'm just wondering if there are any other cables that are "out of sight, out of mind" that I may have overlooked or disconnected for any reason while replacing the clutch.
Thanks guys and gals.

Your cruise control cable is connected to the throttle wheel, trace it back to the motor by the passenger side firewall. It should be plugged into the wiring harness there, check it.
As far as I know, nobody sells aftermarket "performance" (AKA Make your car rattle more) mounts.
You could check www.rockauto.com for a cheap price on direct replacement motor mounts.
As far as axles, I don't have an autozone in my town, but from what I've heard, if you reuse the original clip from your old axle on the autozone one, then things will be fine.
well i used autozone axles when i did my clultch and axle replace and all i have to say is i wish i rebuilt them. The first AZ set i bought one of the out side joints would hardly move . Luckily i saw this before i installed it. I took it back and the second on felt better so i decided to go ahead an install it. Guess what - they (or at least one) is allready starting to click!! I think that may have been the worst thing i have done to this car. To bad i didn't read Sick's post til about 2 days later.
I think i'm just gonna bug the crap out of autozone till they give one that is perfect. Soon i think i will become quite good at changing axels .
The Autozone axles are just rebuilt factory axles. Not like they're garbage. Workmanship probably isn't super-precise, but If you want axles with new CVs, they're about $50 more per axle.
is there any way to check them while they're off the car? This would make my "find a good axle" mission alot easier.
o yeah - one other thing i noticed after is there seems to be slack in the drivetrain . When i come to a stop, start moving and esp if i shift hard in to 2nd i can feel a "thump" like the is play some where. i sure hope its the axles...

How about motor mounts... which by the way will kill your axles.
hmmm... thats kinda slipped by me. Now that i think about it that would explain the grind into 2nd i get every once in a while. Thanx i think you may have just saved me a bunch of trouble.
Is the best place to get them mazda or can i get hem else where?
but i still think one of my axles is to blame for the clicking. I don't think motor mounts could do that in less than 100mi.

This is definitely something a person should look closer at with replacing shafts and observing any abnormal harshness in the way of thunking, clunking, vibrating, etc.
Just makes sense that bad mounts can place undue stress upon the axles. They're trying there hardest to go round and round, when at the same time getting thrown punches from every bump in the road which the old worn mounts are no longer capable of absorbing the "shock" from.
So where do ya think that this "shock" is going to end up at ? Yeah........the drivetrain powerhorse axles connecting to your wheels ! So, what is the weakest link ? It's a chain reaction train wreck.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the cruise control cable is connected to the accelerator pedal under the dash, which is in turn connected to the throttle wheel (You can see the cruise cable going thru the firewall). That's why when the cruise is operating, your gas pedal moves with it.

Nope, 'swat's right. the reason the pedal moves is because when the CC unit moves the throttle plate, it moves the whole assembly, including what the pedal is attached to. The CC box is on the passenger side of the car in the engine compartment. Go look, we'll wait...
Ok, hevent had the time to look for the cruise control yet, but i DID check out the wesite, and DAMN, I am definitely gonna buy from there. THanks for that info, gonna check on the cruise tomorrow before work.
THanks guys

This is how every mazda I've worked on has been set up.
A few cars (of other makes) have had seperate throtte acutators for the cruise control, but I've never seen one that mates directly to the accelerator peddle.

My cruise cable attaches to a bellcrank arrangement that is part of the throttle (accelerator pedal). The only cable connected to the throttle butterfly comes from the pedal.
