Has anyone heard of the "Turbonator"? If so has anyone here used it or something like it before? I can see it possibly working to give a little extra power but not the claimed 35 horsepower or 31% better mpg. I wonder how hard it would be to make one of these things? It doesn't even spin and it says u can put up to 3 on your intake hose! Great idea for cheap power or total rip off??
Check it out: www.turbonator.com
I always wondered why the car manufacturers wanted us to get 31% worse mileage and 35 less hp by omitting a simple part like that.
They seem to spend bushels of dollars on other, more complicated (and more expensive) things to try to add hp and increase economy. You gotta wonder how they could so stupid to overlook such a simple, cheap solution.
Ok, nevermind! I just searched it out and it seems to be a load of shizzle. Has anyone actually tested one out before? I'm still curious because it does say it has a 30 day moneyback garuntee! Has anyone ever thought of putting a venturi type thing in the air hose? Faster, cooler air??
If you'd like to know something interesting in the new 2005 Mustang GT they use plates in the intake ports right before the head which acutally block about half the port at lower speeds to encourage more swirl into the combustion chamber, of course enhancing low end power and eficciency. Interesting huh.
If anything it impeeds airflow. There have been a bunch of threads in the past about this thing and its variants. I think one was called the SpiralMax or some junk like that.
A special treat would be if this pinwheel you're sticking in your intake hose falls apart and you get some nice chunks flying into your combustion chamber.
Seriously though, SleepCounter is right. Auto manufacturers put a lot of time and effort into developing these systems on your car and I doubt sticking some hunk of junk metal/plastic into your airhose is going to help much.
if you want a turbonator.. go buy a 2.0 neon.. put a dynamax muffler on it and goto the marine shop and buy the biggest cfm fan they have... look for one around the 600-800 cfm range.. they're hard to find.
It will shave .3 off your 1/4 times... =]
yea my buddy had one.. he ran 7 times on drag day last 3 times with it on.. almost all times were .2-.4 lower than his original time.. but when you start adding more power parts.. it won't do as much.... it's only helping air flow into the intake mani.. when the car starts to build more power.. it will do that little bit by itself.
They had it on a 2.5 lt stratus too.. i don't know if it helped at all they claimed it was at mid range rpms.. but ... come on.. "i smell rice burning....."
Ya, knooow
This topic comes up way too much. We need to take it out to pasture and shoot it in the head. Another genius idea of mine .. how about an Mx-6.com Consumer Reports . when we get a buck of two (literally) throw it in a pot until the pot gets big enough. Track the contributors and vote based on percentage of contribution on what should be purchased for testing. Then the results could be posted as hard facts with no outside influences to the statistics. When another person comes on here..." I heard about...." just point 'em to the sticky ...
Ok, but seriously, would be nice to collect data on different stuff we have on our cars and give it some kind of rating. "Free" always interests people and whoever's curious about whatever can come to their own decisions. After-all "we" are never always in a good enough mood to address something with the amount of seriousness that another member may have in regards to "upgrades". Some kinda chart would be impartial and may even be "required" reading on here before asking something that might set another member off. BUUURRRNN BABY BUUUUURRRN!! Mwhahahaha:flipa:
... .. ... Soooo, since Special6 brought it up.... . ..Whatcha doin' next Saturday?
I think it would be a great idea to post up info on how well products performed, that way we can determine for ourselves what to use in future mods. If we could get manufactures involved somehow, they could use our cars to test out new products and we can independantly review their performance. This is kind of like what Edelbrock does when they need to test out a new product, they ask for a volunteer and mod their car for free. The only problem for us is that mx6's are not the most popular cars to trick out, unlike the civics and mustangs, etc. so there is not an overwhelming demand for such products.
