Marty...thats one solution also. I thought of that originally but I went for the struts instead thinking that one day I might get something that was a direct fitment for the 1st gen rear spindles(in my case this turned out to be true).
Either way though I suppose it doesnt matter too much. Youll be using 1st gen parts(maybe with a 1mm shim) or 2nd gen parts for the duration. Gavin |

sorry to bring up an old thread, but due to a little "wreck", I've found myself with a 2nd gen setup of tokico blues and unkown (probably stock) springs. I have a 91pgt and wouldn't mind putting them on there after I finish my motor build in a few weeks. I have no problem getting in there and installing everything, sounds like a blast to me, but I had a couple extra questions for you.
You talked about the camber being correctable for the rear. would a shop do this for me w/out any other supplies? do I need some type of camber kit even if I never plan to ride with my tires angled 45*? I know I should probably just call around to some shops, but I was curious if that was necessary for you? and you mentioned crash bolts may be necessary. I don't know what those are, but I'm guessing a shop doing alignments would.Other than the camber questions, I REALLY liked your write up of all that. I look forward to doing it. I hope you have some time to respond to my questions ![]() Zach |

I really wouldn't recommend hacking the rear for simple Blues

chino9656.... always better to revive a pertinant thread than start a new one. Saves a lot of grief for the search function.
![]() Free/cheap 2nd gen blues? I say go for it. Its really more time than money is you have the items in hand. I think Marty is referring to milling the rear spindles to fit the 2nd gen rears as he had done. I wouldnt suggest that either, mill the ears of the 2nd gen rear struts to fit the spindles. The camber difference wont be that bad(an additional +1deg front and rear). The fronts should be easily correctable with the adjustments from the upper spring perch and be within spec. The rears may or may not have enough motion to be within spec. If it is, no problem. If not, camber bolts(crash bolts) may be necessary. Another option to camber bolts (if you feel inclined) is to lightly slot the upper set of strut mount holes that attatch to the spindle. Lengthen the holes towards the chassis of the car by about 2-3mm. You will have to make sure that the bolts are torqued tightly and check periodically so they do not slip from their final settings(you would have to do the same with camber bolts as well). Gavin |

cheap blues? yea, my girlfriend crashed her 94 that had them on it, so we're parting it and I'm taking her seats and struts
It wouldn't be for a while before i do it, but i'll prepare them. Thanks for all the info.oh, and how much did it run for a machine shop to mill the ears of the struts? I guess I could call around, but I don't even know what to ask for...haha... "Hi, how much does it run to mill some ears?" haha |

Thats pretty much what I did. I had both rear struts with me, found a machine shop and described what I needed done with items in hand. The fellow looked at me with a puzzled look on his face and said..."thats it?..thats all you want?".
15min later he gave me back the struts and asked for $20. Your mileage may vary of course. Machinists tend to be busy folks, its an easy job to do and if they see what needs to be done they may just slip you into their schedule. Gavin Last edited by gavin : 12-19-05 at 17:25. |

Most shops won't want to do it for liability reasons (weakening of that part)

This is a good point re:"machine shop" and liability. I said I took my struts to a "shop", poor choice of words. It was actually a private workshop of a machinist who specialized in custom fabrication.
I assume since custom parts are, in effect, expirimental and without guarantee, machining the ears was no issue. Gavin |
