Keep in mind that the a/c fan seldom comes on even when the a/c is running. Now if they are wired to the same spot it would be different. The worthless rad fan does most of the work.

Yea but they are on opposite sides so the flow direction is the same if wired corrrect.

Only if they are wired in series. If they are wired in parallel they will spin the same speed as they would on different circuits but the thing to be aware of is the increased current draw. Make sure fusing and relay contacts are sized for it. IIRC the radiator fan circuit goes thru 2 relays so both would need to be looked at.

How is the stock radiator fan "worthless" ? It works just fine and keeps these cars plenty cool. It really annoys me when people assume that everything that came on the car from the factory is inadequate and "sucks" just because it doesn't have a shiny Summit (or whatever) sticker on it.

I agree. But I will add this fact. There are 4 different fans Mazda used for the MX6.

1. NA 5sp is the smallest.

2. Turbo 5sp is next

3. NA Auto

4. Turbo auto is the largest.

So if you feel you need to upgrade and do not have a Turbo auto there you go.

Smallest - largest means the current draw for the fan motor. When my fan died I got one from a NA Auto at a junk yard.

If your car is all but stock then the factory rad fan is fine, but if you have had alot of head and block machine work done then it's not enough. The factory rad fan does not click on until the car reaches 220 degrees and that is too late in my case.

Why don't you just modify the thermoswitch circuit so it comes on earlier then? Changing the fan isn't going to help your situation.

You don't want the cooling fans on 100% of the time. The engine has an optimal temperature range it should be at; too cool or too hot are both bad situations. While your intuition may think "cooler is better" this is definitely not the case - optimum power/efficency is in a certain temp range (approx 200 F)

Grin

My car is an 88 turbo gt w/manual and I removed all my ac except the fan. When I push the ac button on the dash, the fan comes on and stays on until I press the "ac" button off again. I don't know if the car still thinks the ac system is still intact, but it works great when the temp starts climbing! Good ol' "3 window ac" works for me!! I still have the factory one too, so it's like having dual fans anyway.
