B2200 F2 Head options (12V?)

Can I use the 12-valve head of an MX-6 F2 and swap out my 8-valve F2 head from my B2200?

I've been looking at the specs of the F2 engine of that generation and they seem identical! The distributor is in the same place for carbed and Fuel injected, right?

you will find the dizzy will be in the cab if you use the fwd head. you can get rwd 12v head though, if its like the 8v, then the basic head is the same, and a modular bit bolts on that makes it rwd/fwd. the cam is also different for the drive for the fwd/rwd dizzy

the basic hg is the same though. but the coolant plumbing is different. source the correct hg for the ute setup unless you put the thermo on the back of the head, in which case, source the fwd hg.

fred.

A Utility vehicle - it's an Australasian term that makes more sense than pick-up truck. I mean WTF is a 'pick-up' truck? What are you picking up? Hillbillies?

Damn. That would have been a nice upgrade for a B2200. Sounds like trouble.

Quote from "My Cousin Vinnie", perhaps? "What's a ute?"

According to Wikipedia:

F2 Engine:

1988-1992 Mazda 626
1988-1992 Mazda MX-6
1988-1992 Ford Probe
1987-1999 Mazda B2200

F2T Engine:
Mazda 626
Mazda MX-6
Ford Probe

Unless Wikpedia is wrong (it happens!) I don't think there is a van in that list...or is there?

What engine does the MPV use?

The F2 is a simple stroker of the FE. And as such, there's similar 12V heads for the FE and the destroked F8, including RWD variations used in the E-series/Bongo vans.

And chances are Wikipedia is wrong... never quote the F-engine pages, I tidied them up a bit but there's no solid information to be found anywhere.

As the Professy says:

"HOO! That's good news!"

I'll just keep on looking, then. I'm going to guess that I'm looking for an F engine with:

1. Same dimensions, displacement and layout,
2. Same cam gear size exactly
3. Same conduits (cooling and oil)

Is that correct?

12V head from F8/FE RWD would probably be the way to go. Talk to Fredio, he's pretty wise on such matters.
