ricer sound is worht 15 hp and loss in street credit. But all in all its about 1-2 hours depending on your experience and the ammount of pb blaster you have. Or you can get the old one out with a muffler cutter. Please be carefull if you do this, lots of people every year get severley hert with these, so do it at your owm risk. Are you going with the Pacesetter ?

Not at all, just takes a few hours if stuff keeps going wrong. It also helps a lot if you (or someone you know) can weld well. My car has a cat-back using a mandrel bent midpipe, cherrybomb turbo muffler, and some kind of down-turned tip. It tucks up and hides behind the bumper.

It is not hard to put your own cat-back exhaust on.

It isn't worth but maybe, 2-3 hp for a stock non-turbo.
It is worth more for a non-stock GT, especially if you have a bigger turbo, and are pushing more CFM.

i agree. If you have a GT (or GT swap) an upgraded exhaust helps alot. Im hitting 2.5 psi more now.

i would atleast get headers along with a catback and just do a full exhaust. Headers are worth a few extra hp too.

if he doesn't have a GT you can't really buy headers for an LX engine can you?

I haven't seen a lot of parts for the non turbo just cause i'm sure after market wise its just easier to make stuff for engines that people go after.

Re: Headers
There are the Pacesetter headers, about $160. Often they are not listed for Mazda MX6, but you can find them for the non-turbo Ford Probe of the same years.

A couple people love them (gtdreamdxbudget), other have had EGR fitment problems, other have had problems with rust(you did get your pacesetter headers ceramic coated, right???).

The Pacesetter headers also sit rather low, so some people have had problems with a heavily lowered car (>2"), and the headers hitting the ground.

Otherwise, the Pacesetter headers are ok.

You can always go for custom headers.

Absolutely don't go over 2-2.25" on a Non-turbo exhaust. You'll just loose torque.

i can tell, i did a 1 7/8" to a 2" pipe (had to really tighten clamp. parts store was closed so i just wanted something to work.) and from that about 12" long to my 2 1/4" inlet (i had a 2 to 2 1/4 flare though...) and of course its a bad ebay muffler i'd had laying around for 2 years now. anyway its 14" long, free flowing and then of course the outlet is 4 inches. Honestly its horribly loud, not so much raspy but just overall noisy. I do feel like i almost lost power and at the same time my gas seems to be kinda worse now. I thought i could get to 200 miles half tank. Now is more around 140 to 150ish.

So i may plan something else out after i get my test pipe from "the resident scary black dude" since i can't remember the name now.

But i have the exhuast cutter and that does make it much quicker. It looks like a chain attached to a handle. It actually has steel cutting wheels that as you tighten the chain it makes the wheels dig in more. Much like a brake line cutting tool. Even with me screwing stuff up by accident it didn't take more than like 1 1/2 to do it all and mount it.

my bad, i haven't been able to really find one. Not that i'm gonna waste my money on it, easier to get a turbo system and go from there, which i still intend on so i'm kinda igoring power and stuff for the moment.

Dude, you didn't even look.
less than a minute yields:
PACESETTER PERFORMANCE HEADER KITS FOR 4, 6, & 8 CYLINDER VEHICLES - JCWhitney Auto Parts

That being said, if you can't be bothered to find headers, then you probably can't be bothered to put a turbo on, so please don't post any nonsense about doing this or that, let us know when you have.

I couldn't find the header, it seems like a universal header. I would like to see videos of the 1G 2.2 non-turbo with some exhaust on but on youtube i've seen only 2

The link is still good, and yes it is a generic picture.
Not sure about the videos, you'll have to search youtube on your own.
Maybe you can beg GTDreamDXbudget for some videos. He has probably had the most sucess with a Pacesetter header, it seems like his isn't that bad. Pretty loud, the one time I took a ride in his car.( before the 10:1 pistons, darn it) it was crazy loud.
