yeah, its a useless power mod. i did it cause i have megasquirt and didnt want to try to make it work right. also you can pass emissions without it, unless theres an underhood check. truefully all you need for emissions though is a cat. (meow) but yeah, its a dumb mod to do unless your going megasquirt or its broken and your name is zach.

if your egr is working properly, it wont help peak power at all. they're designed to close off at WOT. its mainly an emmissions control for steady pace cruising. the egr valve *can* get stuck open after years and dilute the intake charge all of the time costing power. then it's a power reclaim not a gain to remove or block the egr.

or in the opposite situation, it gets clogged and doesn't actually work. i know its not a hp adder, but can help if you rather block it off than clean it. (or like zach where his leaks vaccum.)

personally, i just blocked where the egr pipe goes into the manifold using a 1/2 inch knock out from a metal electrical box. and removed the egr pipe entirely, sealing the end at the headers with a bit of mild steel and welding. no problems at all with CEL's.

i just finished removing my pipe today.on the intake side theres a nickel in the nut, and its screwed down tight. and on the exhaust side theres the bung plug that came with my wideband stuck in the hole, and welded in.

i read somewhere that you would ping if the egr tubr from the intake mani to the exhaust mani was blocked off.

ill see if i can find it.

doesnt make sence, your idle temps will increase a bit because you're not diluting the intake with exhaust gasses, but if thats enough to make your motor ping, you've got much bigger troubles. most pinging tents to happen at WOT when the egr is supposed to be blocked off anyway.

yup, thats bull[shizzle].
egr is only open at idle (sometimes, depends on situation) and cruise after warm-up. anything outside that range it doesn't matter, cause its off. without egr, gas economy could go down slightly during cruise, but with megasquirt you can always tune slightly leaner.

edit: removing egr is still a dumb mod, unless you have a good reason to. (changing manifold, megasquirt, its broken)

god thats a painful read. but yes, its not even open at idle, just from some throttle pos to some throttle pos. so when its cold/wot/idle its closed. other than that, your fine without it, as stated in that thread.

alright i just made my egr block off plate. My egr somehow had water in it, so it stop working and im getting a CEL for it now. To make my block off plate, all i did was go to home depot and buy a small piece of aluminum and cut it to the shape of the old metal egr gasket. Then just for extra thickness, to help beef the aluminum up, i used rtv sealant to make the block off plate seal on top of the old egr gasket. Gonna go give it a try but should work fine. Not bad for a 38 cent repair.

F.......i snapped one of the bolts of in the manifold somehow. I cant believe i actually did that. So i got two bolts holding the plate in place plus a put a [shizzle] load of rtv sealant and it seems to hold really strong.

Eureka! This could explain why my car runs a little hot when idling. The previous owner cut the EGR pipe and left it open, looks like they tried to remove the tube from the manifold with torches but just melted it in place. I swapped in a manifold from my parts car that had an intact EGR tube but I couldn't get it off of the intake manifold, so I just bought a plug and screwed it into the hole. I'll take a picture when its light out again...
