piston pin removal?

how is the piston pin removed? I see a little clip like thing in midle of pin. Tryed removing it and it doesn't appear to want to come out.

I know that on other piston pins there is a little ring on the end that can be pulled off with pliers then tap the pin out.....correct me if i'm wrong.... I don't know why I'm having issues taking this pin out??? haynes book doesn't seem to tell how to take this out! thanks for everyones help again!

there are two types of pins, floating and pressed.
in a floating pin, you have a pair of lock rings, one on either side keeping the wrist pin from coming out of the assembly
in our application, we have a pressed in pin. thus meaning that either you need a press or have a machine shop do it for you ( i would suggest the machine shop ). trying to force it out without a press will cause damage to piston/pin/both.

what does heat have to do with anything? trying to force it out when it's hot just makes the metal softer and more likely to be damaged. do it properly, have a machine shop press the pin in and out

they'd put it in/out with a hydrolic press, they dont heat up anything for fear of softening the metal and causing it to mushroom. however, if you want to take the torch to your metal bits that require precise balance and whack on it with a hammer, feel free.

1) Hydrolic press is spelled hydraulic

2) When you press a pin into a piston, the common practice is to heat the piston- press the pin into place.

You raise the temperature of the metal and it ensures against galling when the pin is install.

EDIT: When did I ever say torch? And how hot do you think it doesn't get inside the cylinder walls anyways?

WTF is your point? I don't care where you worked bro. The common practice is to use heat. There are specialized jigs made specifically for applying heat. I'm not talking a half an hour, 30 seconds, enough to expand it, push the pin in or out, STFU. Does he have a press in his pocket? Done.
