don't know if this will help you guys or not, but...
there's 2 ways to change you stock strut housings to use inserts, if there's enough ID... 1. hack the top off, gut it, and weld on a threaded section of tube. Carrerra sells these sections. I think it's 48x1.5mm? It's the same for VW, Toyota, Nissan... Cut some off the struts of those cars or have them made at a machine shop. Now you can run inserts from a MR2, Golf, Rabbit, Celica, Z-car... 2. hack off the top, gut it, drill a hole in the bottom, and bolts up some koni struts like the Eclipse or WRX inserts. These inserts are just held in from underneath with a bolt. fwiw, RRE uses Eclipse inserts on their GTX coilovers. You'd just have to check if the tubes had enough ID and find inserts in the correct length... |

Familar with both of those methods. The thing with the first is the guesswork it would take to estimate whose strut (and we are talking strut and not shocks from a double wishbone car) would be close enough in valving to be suitable for the MX6. If you estimate the valving then itll probably be ok. For me this wouldnt work. Revalving was always the necessary step and that added more cost.
As to the second..well AusMX6 already said it. But it was interesting that I did speak to Mike Welch at Road Race Engineering about this long ago when I thought Eclipse struts were the answer. Mike campaigns both Mitsubishi and Mazda cars for his rally program. Surely he would have an idea. Unfortunately he wasnt familliar with the MX6 and so couldnt say for sure if it would work. He did say they had used the eclipse front struts in a number of other applications so It probably could work there too. And then there was the KYB AGX insert episode...Oy vay! Too many "probablys" for me. Gavin |

Acctually, It's good to know that there is a sport option, even if it does require a little more work. There doesn't seem to be anything really risky involved. But then, for the cost I could take care of my bushings, then get some of Adam's Suspension pieces, then get my Addco's. I don't even know If I'll ever really get to the "Koni-sport" level on this car. But it's always good to have options. Thanks. |

![]() So comforting knowing that there is a home like MX6, for newbies and horsefluffers like me. I have a '91 LX Automatic, with 94k. This is my first car, I'm 24 and am learning a whole lot and my credit cards love me a little more now!!! But thanks to Moebius, I know have fine tuned my desires when it comes to getting a smoother ride, and a little more horsepower. I wish I had a GT, like most of you guys do. I still need some advice on find SPRINGS, that are not lowered but just stiffer then the Stock 1's. I also want a FSTB, does Dutch626 still offer a FSTB? Was kind of confused by a picture I saw regard Gavin's suspension project. If you look at the picture he took of the Noltec suspension bushings, since I want to replace them all around, do I need to purchase both? I will look foward to becoming a member soon, 10 bux not bad. And with all the knowledge I have picked up from this site, Its well worth it. ANy advice from anyone is great. Cheers Cesar. |

This is the thread that never ends,
Yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started posting to it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue posting to it forever just because.......This is the tread that never ends.....
he he.FirstGenMX....I dont know of any aftermarket springs that are stiffer but do not affect overall ride height. Eibachs may be the best bet for what you are looking for. They are quite stiffer than stock with only a moderate reduction in ride height(1" front 1.3" rear?) The Noltecs were purchaced before Superpro offered a full set of bushings. They only had front urethane bushings so I had to mix and match mfgrs. This is no longer the case and both Superpro and noltec offer full kits. My personal opinion, having sampled both mfgrs., is that superpro has the more polished product. Contact FLAPOC-pres through PMs(or otherwise) as he has ties to get the Superpro bushings Dutch626 has access to aluminium FSTBs I believe. PM him to find out what the status of this is. There is also a bar being developed by PMO on probetalk.com, here: http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701113851 Gavin Last edited by gavin : 8-28-04 at 3:25. |

we also have bilstein struts available over here in germany thru www.tuninghaus.de specifically for the 1st gen, that's the route i plan on taking. ![]() |
