I would find you...and cut you if you did that.

This car does not belong on the street. It belongs on sanctioned road courses. Like I said in the ebay thread. If I had the money to toss around, I'd pick this up. Such is life

Yikes, all love to my Mazdas but there are a number of far better cars in currently competitive classes that could be had for far less than $12,500. I've watched competitive well built Spec Miatas with spares AND A TRAILER go for less than than that. If the seller plans to get that price he'd better hope to find someone with a whole lot of nostalgia.

On top of that, wasn't the last seller only looking for $2k?? I'm assuming he got it, if so where's the extra $10,000 in value??

Form Follows Function. If it doesn't work, get it the f--- out.

Couple things...just from a couple things I see, Im pretty sure this is a different car than that of the other listings. Granted, the changes could have been made over the years, but there are a couple of these cars floating around out there.

That some person decided to buy a racecar without knowing what it is worth and then sells it for $2k doesnt meant that that is what the car is worth...it just means that guy is clueless and someone else was holding back the giggles as he got a smoking deal

(by the way, this isnt always the best thing...remember my mention of the "white elephant"?....getting a "cheap" racecar is like getting a "cheap" ferrari......with $4000 oil changes. The maintenance costs can bury you)

Ryan....have you looked at the build sheets of the cars? You have to know that even at 10% of the original cost of the parts that you are going to have a LOT of money invested into this car. 15yrs down the road, what would you sell a world challenge Mazda6 for?...cuz thats what you effectively have in the build of this car. Comparing prices to a 91 1.6l (much less a 99 1.8l) Spec-Miata isnt a reasonable comparison at all.

...oh, it looks like its finally got a reasonable and competitive class to compete in again. Super touring was a class created to give a place for ex-world challenge cars (and builds of this type) that were otherwise buried in ITE. When you have a car to sell that has a real class, real competition, with cars of like build and performance parameters to fit into....its value increases.

$12,500 is correct for what the car is worth.

And gavin can pass some of what he's smokin too. $12,500 may be worth it to an enthusiast but thats about it. And I don't know many 1G MX6 guys that smoke crack.....that I know of at least. Plenty smoke weed.

$12,500 gavin? Half that maybe.

$4,000....and thats probably at the maximum.

I havent done the full math on the build for my autocross car (because thats _always_ a mistake), but Im pretty sure it is past $11,000 by now. Mind you, that number is not full retail price, but the discounted price from all the savings I have worked to get. If i sold it on the racecar market, Id be lucky to get %50 of the price.....actually, unbelievably lucky.

I think the confusion here is that maybe you arent really familiar with the costs associated with a build/engineering of this type, the community those types of cars normally get sold to or the criteria they use to determine worth of a racecar. Using the badge on the car to make associations with what you are more familiar with....like the car you have in your driveway, or the few limited attempts on a marque forum, is a mistake

I've done the math and the number was over $10k on Carmen not including the car, or the paint work or the recent wheel changes or the fiberglass hood/carbon trunk....it goes on....

I'm sure to build that car would easily top $30k, more wouldn't surprise me either. But it's not a IT Civic with spares....it's an MX6. While it may have cost as much to build as the Honduh, and may even be competitive, it's no where near as popular which hurts its value.

FWIW if logs, tech inspection and mechanicals check out 1000% I'd likely go for $8k max. Even then if my goal is just to go road racing I've seen more than a few good Spec Meotters with spares AND a trailer go for that.

Form Follows Function. If it doesn't work, get it the f--- out.
